Stina Jakobsson

There’s nothing like learning a sport from a young age, and Stina Jakobsson is no exception. Having started skiing in her native Sweden when she was only 2 years old, Stina gained valuable experience throughout her early life by competing in alpine racing and later in moguls. At 13 years of age, Stina took part in her first Big Mountain competition, continually competing until she scored a 3rd place in the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships at 15.

Stina’s attendance at a ski high school in Åre developed her passion for freeriding. Cutting back on competing in Alpine and Mogul events, Stina focused solely on her freeriding. Her training and efforts truly paid off, as in 2005, Stina won both the Swedish Extreme Championships and the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships, and starred in the Swedish Ski Movie ‘Free Radicals’.

2007 saw Stina finish second in the Verbier Xtreme competition, and star in the second ‘Free Radicals’ movie. After then going on to win the Swedish Extreme Championships for a second time, Stina broke her leg on the last day of filming for the season, putting her out of action for an entire year.

A triumphant comeback at the beginning of 2008 saw Stina win the qualifying rounds for the World Tour in Mammoth, USA, but three days before the main competition she tor her anterior cruciate ligament, again putting a temporary halt on her skiing activities.

Back on her skis since December 2008, Stina has been skiing and training between Engelberg in Switzerland and Stockholm in her native Sweden.

Stina has most recently earned a wildcard entry into the 2009 / 2010 Freeride World Tour, and completed filming on a new all-female ski movie called Generation Flinga. Stina will participate in numerous photoshoots in the up-coming season, and will be training in Verbier, her home for the up-coming 2010 season.
