As a professional guide (6'1", 170 lb.), I have an intimate relationship with my gear, and my standards for performance are high. I don't tolerate poor design, shoddy manufacturing, or materials that fail. The Osprey Pixel is an absolute pleasure to use - one of those rare pieces of gear where I see little to no room for improvement, and I'm notoriously hard to please. I use this everyday in an urban setting, when I need to look casual/professional yet need to carry my laptop and personal items in something more comfortable and convenient than a briefcase (on foot, bicycle, or commuter train). I also use this when traveling because of its versatility, ease of access, and ability to handle a decent load without becoming bulky or awkward to handle. Simply put, this is a Gear Classic!

The overall design is very clean, with simple lines and a surprisingly compact profile. Even when stuffed with gear and personal items (15" MacBook, iPad, notebook, pen, paperback novel, sunglasses, lightweight down jacket, windbreaker, piece of fruit, 18oz Klean Kanteen, bike lights, inhaler and various small personal effects, as well as all the power cords stowed neatly in the Powerhouse cord bag), I have still have enough room to hold my 4yo daughter's puffy jacket and stuffed animal with the expansion zippers deployed. And stuffed, it still carries quite comfortably and securely (no load shifting), staying nice and close to my body without any outward bulges.

What's more impressive, I can still quickly and easily access my laptop without opening the main compartment, and it is all kept so securely with strategically placed padding as to put your mind at ease. I also love the lime green interior; while it's far from my favorite color, it enhances visibility making it easy to find even the smallest items inside.

Reading another reviewer's comments, I offer my sincere condolences for the loss of a prized laptop, but IMHO, one can hardly fault Osprey for failing to close the zipper.

Overall this is an excellent bag. There is just one huge problem that has bothered me since I have bought it and that is the side laptop opening. The specs for this bag say it can hold a 15" laptop but it is honestly not practical given the current design. I often find myself having to force the computer into the bag. However I was able to make it easier by cutting the top part of the fabric making the opening just slightly larger. Would buy again if the sizing was actually able to fit a 15" laptop with ease.

    Comments about Osprey PIXEL:

I was searching for the perfect pack for my daily train commute (1 hr. each way) to school. I recently decided to change career paths, and go back to school at 40. I had pretty specific requirements for a bag. It needed to be comfortable, spacious but not too big, well organized and thought out, durable, and look great! The Pixel was the only bag out of dozens that I tried that fit the bill! For my needs, and what I was going for, the Pixel was the perfect pack! Ignore the negative comments about the side access for the laptop. That's a killer feature, not a detriment. This was my first Osprey pack, but it definitely won't be my last!

Love this pack except the design flaw others have mentioned. If you forget to zip up the laptop compartment, laptop is basically in a launch pouch if you go to swing pack on and forget to zip. My macbook went flying, put two dents in our new coffee table and dented corner of macbook. Not osprey's fault, but I wish design had a fail-safe for this possible user error.

        Comments about Osprey PIXEL:

I've had this bag for 3 years now but it's time to replace it with a new bag as today was the third (and last) time I've forgotten to zip the side laptop compartment causing my new Dell XPS 13 to fly out of the bag. Luckily it still works but has a dent on one of its corners. I'm typically very anal about closing the zipper - unfortunately all it takes is one time ... Better to have top access to your laptop
Other than this major flaw, the bag is very useful and comfortable as well as looks professional in an office setting

        Comments about Osprey PIXEL:

I travel extensively internationally for work. When I switched from a briefcase to a backpack the search was extensive. At one time I had 5 different bags in my possession to compare them back to back, loading and unloading with all the gear I need to travel with.

Finally picked the Pixel for it's weight, expansion, comfort under load, and style. In doing so I gave up two features that other bags had.

        1) An external water bottle holder. Ideally this would somehow zip open to reveal a mesh. When it is not in use it needs to hide to maintain the lines of the bag.

        2) A well lined sun glasses pouch. All the other bags I tried had a velvet-like lined pouch for sunglasses. It could be argued that the outer most zipper pocket could be used for that however I don't find the material suitable, my glasses sink to the bottom making them difficult to retrieve, and it disrupts the lines. I find I store a hard case inside my main pocket but it is constantly moving and doesn't give my hand a known place to reach for when I'm on the go.

Finally I did have to return the bag after only a few trips because the zipper on the laptop pocket came unstitched at the top and bottom. I was able to field repair it to get home and Osprey was excellent to deal with getting the bag fix/replaced. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bag to anyone (in fact my wife liked it so much she got one too!).

        Comments about Osprey PIXEL:

I am a frequent flyer that was starting to have back pain, so I needed to switch to a backpack, much to my chagrin. When I would think of laptop backpack for business travel, I would instantly get an image of some NormCore dude with a golf shirt and khakis. Thank god for Osprey!

I really do love this pack. It packs quite a bit of stuff and I especially love to bottom compartment and accompanying pouch for chargers and cords. It's got just enough compartments it's not too confusing and easy to navigate through.

The 2 things I would say are slight drawbacks. First, I wish there was an external water bottle holder, because putting a bottle of water in the inner compartment should make anyone nervous. The other drawback is I wish the outside pocket and laptop sleeve part were top loading instead of side loading. I've forgotten to zip up the laptop portion more than once and had my laptop slide out of the bag and crash onto the floor. And I nearly lost my wallet when I didn't zip the front pocket. In these situations, gravity could have been my friend and not my enemy - and top loaders would have helped this.

All in all, it's very stylish and sleek and does not make me feel like the average business travel bear.

Had many many bags before, from high-end designer bags to recently outdoor recreational gears (introduced by fiance). A city gal who fell in love with this bag. Fits my petite body frame exceptionally and surprisingly well. A lot LESS back pain and fatigue after using this bag from hauling around my 15lbs + of textbooks, notebooks, laptop, water bottles, food, and pen/pencils. The separate and well-designed compartments within the bag is a plus. Easily can organize and find my pens or whatever I'm looking for even in the dark. Items stay put. Well secured. The design of the bag is gender neutral, sleek and doesn't offend the wearer's shape.

            Comments about Osprey PIXEL:

I really liked this pack, but unfortunately after a month of use it has led me to great pain and suffering. The tablet compartment was not large enough to fit my new $650 surface, so I stored it in the side laptop compartment. Unfortunately, the compartment is too large to keep the tablet snug. Forgot to zip it up, lifted the bag, tablet crashed and burned, hit the ground like an anvil. Cracks all the way across the bottom and the touchscreen is completely unusable. Microsoft wants $450 to fix it, and even if I could afford the repair it's just not worth it. Super bummed....can't recommend this bag for anyone with a tablet over 10" or small laptop. Even if you're as cautious with your device's safety as I am, it is only a matter of time before the same fate befalls your precious coding machine.

Other than that unfortunate, product defining complaint, the bag is excellent.
Safely and comfortably holds a change of cloths, the ungodly number of cables and power cords I carry, pens, glasses case, and writing utensils. Great for every day use and short trips.

Now, please excuse me while I finish mourning the death of the most beautiful laptop I've every owned.
