Lightweight and durable, this carry-on bag is easy to roll and a soft grip on the telescopic handle. Testers had difficulty unzipping the main compartment, and in tests, the handle sometimes stuck. Also, the bag doesn’t have front compartments for additional storage. In charcoal. (ospreypacks.com)
Not too long ago trek7k did a write up on the Osprey Raptor 6 and if you recall he raved over its sleek and comfortable design. Today I’m writing about another offering in the Osprey hydraulics line-up – the Manta 20. Unlike the Raptor, the Manta is a larger pack designed for day trips and epic rides.
The Osprey Elroy bag appeared on my doorstep this week and I was more than enthusiastic about its arrival. I’m graduating from a Masters program in May, and planning, possibly, my last great summer get-away before becoming a hard-working stiff in September. My itinerary from mid-May through August includes a hiking/camping cross-country road trip to Sedona, two weeks of camping and hiking in Alaska, volunteering as a fly-fishing instructor in Alaska, and traveling in Asia for three weeks. If you were putting together a recommended gear list (particularly lightweight waterproof jacket, backpack, tent, and sleeping bag) from scratch where would you start?
… I also like Osprey’s Aether 70 ($260), which is about the same size as the Baltoro, and is just a touch lighter. I’ve carried both in the past year and love them both.
