Osprey will officially open the doors to its new distribution center in Odgen, Utah, at the end of this month. Warehousing and shipping will operate out of the new facility while the pack brand’s company headquarters will remain in Cortez, along with its sales, customer service, marketing, finance and quality assurance departments.

Osprey chose Ogden because of its proximity to the national rail network, which will allow it to improve shipping to retailers while reducing the brand’s carbon footprint (since it won’t need to rely on trucks as much). About 23 people will work there, some transfers from Cortez, and some will be local hires…

ODRMag.com – Osprey Packs Moving Distribution from Colorado to Utah – June 20, 2014

June 20, 2014

Starting next year, Osprey Packs will run its distribution out of Utah’s Wasatch Front. Company headquarters, including sales, customer service, marketing, finance, quality assurance, returns and other core functions will remain in their current locations in Cortez, Colorado. The move will be completed by mid-2015.

The move puts the backpack brand’s distribution center near a major rail hub, allowing it to switch from truck-based transportation to train, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The new facility is much larger, and will house stock that is currently spread among seven different facilities in Cortez.

“The decision to relocate our distribution function to a transportation hub such as the Wasatch Front is an exciting and necessary move for Osprey,” said Tom Barney, CEO of Osprey Packs. “Our dealers and our company will benefit from a single-roof DC surrounded by significant logistics services. Osprey is happy to retain and grow our headquarters in Colorado while welcoming old and new Team Members to Utah, a favorite neighboring state with strong recreational values and the host of the Outdoor Retailer trade show.”
