The ski season in the Eastern U.S. was horrifically bad this year. I haven’t seen so many days in the 70-degree range in March for some years.

I’ve warmed up to skiing packed granular conditions for years since there isn’t much choice for east coast skiing. This year was no different. Osprey Packs’ line of Karve packs are designed for a full day of front mountain skiing (and riding) with sidecountry mixed in. The pack accompanied me for plenty of granular runs.

I took out the Osprey Packs Karve 16 for a few days of resort skiing. The conditions were mostly soft and wet in late February and early March but still fun.

Osprey Packs announced its newest pack which supports the Breast Cancer Fund. The special, limited-edition Verve 10 is available at selected U.S. retailers and at the company’s website.

Osprey will donate $4 of the purchase price to the Breast Cancer Fund. A donation of $5,000 is guaranteed by Osprey to the non-profit.

Osprey Packs has been supporting the Breast Cancer Fund since 2005 as a corporate sponsor of Climb Against the Odds, an event that raises over $5 million. The 2011 event will take place at Mount Shasta in June.

Hydration packs are versatile enough to carry plenty of water along with clothing for rainy weather and tools for maintenance emergencies. The main attraction in West Virginia’s Valley Falls State Park is the rushing water over the sandstone ledges of the Tygart Valley River forming several waterfalls. The park also boasts exhilarating singletrack mountain biking along its 18-miles of trails.  A mountain bike ride through Valley Falls State Park will dehydrate a biker quickly, and a hydration pack such as the Osprey Raptor 14 is designed for longer mountain bike rides. The Osprey Raptor 14 along with the other hydration packs in the Raptor series will be available at retailers in mid February of 2010.
