Osprey Packs, Inc. a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs to comfortably and efficiently carry gear is establishing the new norm for fast and light in outdoor pursuits for Spring 2014. This season, Osprey introduces the new women’s specific multisport pack series, Tempest to join the popular Talon Series, which also gets an update. The full-featured ventilated men’s Stratos and women’s Sirrus daypacks are also refined and simplified, making them more versatile and comfortable than ever.

“This season is all about going fast and light,” said Erik Hamerschlag, product line manager, Osprey Packs. “Lightweight and long distance hiking works best with comfortable, thoughtfully featured packs. With Stratos/Sirrus and Talon/Tempest we deliver stylish, yet technical gender-specific daypacks — either with all the bells and whistles or with a more streamlined feature set. Your choice, your adventure.”

TALON & TEMPEST

The ever-popular Talon Series has truly become Osprey’s legacy pack and has defined the market category of lightweight, high-performance, multi-sport packs.

For Spring 2014, Osprey is raising the bar even higher by refining the series while taking care to maintain all the features, fit and style that have contributed to Talon’s success. Updates include lighter weight as well as design adjustments to enhance comfort in each volume. Most significantly, and adding to the brand’s wide range of packs built for women, the Talon is now complemented by the Tempest Series.

The innovative mesh-covered, die-cut foam Biostretch™ harness and hipbelt on the Talon/Tempest ensure a comfortable fit while the lightweight and supportive Airscape™ Backpanel features ridge-molded foam with an air chimney for maximum ventilation.

STRATOS & SIRRUS

The third-generation of the Stratos and Sirrus series continue to offer unparalleled design and robust features in a ventilated daypack. For Spring 2014, Osprey has simplified the fit with two torso sizes that match the fit range of Osprey’s gender-specific styles. The packs’ styling and materials have been upgraded as well.

As always, comfort is also at the forefront. The Air Speed™ Suspension system includes the LightWire™ alloy frame, which creates low profile air space, optimizing pack balance and ventilation, and a 3-D tensioned, breathable mesh backpanel that ensures supportive fit. The Stratos/Sirrus harness features mesh-covered ventilated die-cut foam and sewn-in spacer mesh.

SNEWSNet.com – Featuring Exos Series – July 22, 2013

July 22, 2013

Osprey Packs, Inc. set the standard for ultra-lightweight packs in 2008 with the introduction of the Exos Series, which instantly became a standard on the Appalachian Trail and with ultralight enthusiasts not willing to sacrifice comfort. For Spring 2014, Osprey has refined the series, maximizing its comfort and support with the latest technology. The redesigned Exos combines Osprey’s innovative Superlight AirSpeed™ suspension paired with the new Exoform™ harness and hipbelt which work together to dramatically improve the pack’s comfort and support. Torso-specific sizing and sleek, ergonomic design create a pack that is as comfortable as it is fast and light.

Trimmed down to its essentials, the new Exos Series is lighter than ever, thanks to the use of updated materials and hardware. As a result, even the largest pack in series tops out at a mere 2.5 pounds. For those who want to lighten the load even further, the lid, key straps and attachment points are all removable.

“The Exos demonstrates beautifully that ’ultra-light’ and ‘suspension’ need not be mutually exclusive,” said Gareth Martins, marketing director of Osprey. “For 2014, we’ve applied our latest technologies, particularly around the harness and hipbelt, to create the ultimate ultra-light, ultra-comfortable pack. Its state-of-the-art suspension prevents sore shoulders and hips and helps hikers conserve energy, allowing them to go farther in more comfort.”

OutdoorGearTV.com – Featuring Ozone Series – July 20, 2013

July 20, 2013

The Ozone series comes in 80 liter, 46 liter and 36 liter sizes, as well as a day pack and courier. Besides the color, right away the first thing I noticed was how extremely light-weight this piece of luggage is. It weighs in at only 4 lbs 15 oz, and still has quite a few great features. It’s easy to maneuver and has plenty of pockets to keep everything organized. The green color makes spotting your bag on the luggage carousel easy and I was really impressed at just how much this bag could hold.

Concerns: Traveling is tough on suitcases and nearly every piece of luggage I’ve owned has eventually been damaged. After the second time traveling with the Ozone it had a couple very small punctures and a small tear. I have concerns that this light-weight bag may not be able to handle the abuse. The Ozone series might be a better choice for carry-on, because you have more control over what happens to your luggage.

For a look at the pack’s features please watch the video.

SeattleBackpackersMagazine.com – Featuring Volt 60 – July 19, 2013

July 19, 2013

Out of all of the packs that I have owned, the Osprey Volt 60 is my personal favorite hands down. With its durable construction, good looks, and well-planned features, I might never need another pack again.

The Volt 60 also offers an adjustable torso for those that need to adjust the fit and makes it a great pack for a young backpacker, as it will be able to grow with them. Osprey also makes a woman’s version of the Volt called the Viva!

Pros

  • The external hydration bladder pocket is easy to access. I had no problems placing a 3.0L water bladder into the pack, even when the pack was already stuffed to the gills with gear.
  • Very comfortable and it is highly adjustable. As my load shifted on the trail, I could easily reach all of the straps and loosen or tighten them as needed to fine-tune the fit.
  • The pack seemed to never run out of room. I could fit enough gear for a multi-night backpacking adventure or even an overnight ski mountaineering trip. The side compression straps were sturdy enough to secure my AT skis, which weigh 9lbs 10oz (including boots), on each side. I could also fit my snow shovel and ski helmet along with all of my usual overnight backpacking gear inside the pack.
  • The top pocket is gargantuan! I loved being able to fit all sorts of miscellaneous items into the top pocket for easy access. I kept my lucky sun hat, my favorite beanie, gloves, sunscreen, headlamp, flask, knife, and energy bars in the top pocket and it was barely half-full. Having the zipper against the back of my head also made accessing the contents very easy, even with the pack on my back.
  • The sleeping pad straps are thoughtfully placed on the pack. With a pad attached, the pack will stand on its own when set on the ground.

SNEWSNet.com – Osprey Expands Hydraulics™ Series with Lighter, Streamlined Reservoir – July 17, 2013

July 17, 2013

Recognizing that less is often more, especially when on the move, Osprey Packs, Inc. is adding to its innovative Hydraulics series with the new Hydraulics LT Reservoir for Spring 2014.

The all-new reservoir features a lighter and simpler feature set compared to the current Hydraulics Reservoir, ideal for fast and light endeavors and pack styles with internal reservoir pockets. Building on the innovations of the Hydraulics Reservoir, the design of Hydraulics LT Reservoir combines excellent reservoir-to-pack integration, superior technical features and the best gender-specific pack-to-body fit and performance on the market.

“Carrying water should never compromise fit, comfort or stability in a pack,” said Gareth Martins, marketing director of Osprey.  ‘We set that standard with the original Hydraulics Reservoir and now, with the introduction of the new Hydraulics LT, our hands-free hydration program takes yet another giant leap.”

The new Hydraulics LT features a QuickConnect™ detachable hose that allows for easy disconnect of the hose for faster refilling. Additionally, the built-in baffles on the reservoir prevent sloshing while maintaining the reservoir’s shape.

•    Liter markings printed on reservoir body
•    Metallocene PE high strength and taste-free film (BPA & PVC-free); anti-microbial formula to prevent bacteria and mold
•    Low-profile shape keeps water weight steady and close to the body
•    Magnetic bite valve with included sternum strap magnet
