At every Outdoor Retailer, the question is always the same, “Have you seen any game changers?” In an industry often overrun with hype and hyperbole, the new Osprey Atmos AG (AntiGravity) represents a paradigm shift in the way people will think about suspension systems. The fourth generation of the brand’s ventilated pack features a unique “AntiGravity” back system along with the world’s first fully ventilated hip belt. The entire back panel of Osprey Atmos AG is a single piece of suspending webbing that floats away from the pack itself distributing weight evenly over every contour of your body. The result? More cushion, greater breathability, and a pack that works with the body through dynamic movements.

Available as the Atmos AG (for men) and the Aura AG (for women)  the packs will come in 50 and 60-liter versions..

TheBigOutside.com – Featuring Atmos AG, Aura AG and Ace Series – August 14, 2014

Thinking about buying a new backpack, tent, boots, or other outdoor gear or apparel? I recently spent a couple of days wandering the floor of The Salt Palace in Salt Lake City—a convention center you could fit a few Wal-Marts inside—at the Outdoor Retailer Show, ogling the best of the new products for hiking and backpacking that will hit stores in 2015…

I’m a fan of the Osprey Atmos packs, and for 2015 the pack maker updates the series with a unique, lightweight mesh suspension that wraps around the hips and torso like a sock on your foot. True to the Atmos and Aura pedigree, the peripheral-wire frame is built for loads of 50 pounds or more…

As a father of two young backpackers, I understand the challenge of finding kids’ packs that fit well and are comfortable—especially on smaller, skinny kids age nine to 11. So I’m eager to have my kids test drive the new Osprey Ace 38 (2 lbs. 6 oz., for ages 10 to 14), Ace 50 (2 lbs. 15 oz., for ages 11 to 16), and Ace 75 (3 lbs. 9 oz., for ages 12 to 17)…

Osprey has done it again – the company that pretty much revolutionizes backpack design on an annual basis turned heads at their Outdoor Retailer booth with a pack that defies gravity.

The Atmos and Aura packs are not new to the Osprey lineup, but what they did to those packs for their 4th generation, well, you need to see it to understand. Simply put, the packs have a 3D contoured suspension that they dub “Anti-Gravity.” According to Osprey, it’s a light, body-contouring suspension “that allows the user to move as if they don’t have a pack on – true anti-gravity realized.”

“Revolutionize” is a word we like to stay away from. But it’s appropriate here because Osprey has indeed revolutionized the pack with their new Anti-Gravity Suspension system, featured in the Atmos AG and Aura AG.

What the company has done is build a suspension system that literally wraps around your body like someone hugging you. Instead of having to make tons of adjustments to get the pack to conform to your body, this suspension system does it for you. You still have to adjust some straps for the perfect fit, but we’ve never used a pack that felt so comfortable, right from the start…
