Osprey Hydration Bladders
We’re big fans of Osprey’s hydration packs, but the bladders have never been quite perfect in our eyes. Luckily for us, CamelBak sued them over a patent infringement, motivating them to explore new options, which resulted in the design you see above. Since the bladders are made by Hydrapak (with design elements from Osprey), who offers a lifetime warranty on its bladders, Osprey can now extend it’s generous “All Mighty Guarantee” to every part of its hydration packs.

Osprey teamed up with HydroPack to create new and improved reservoirs for the company’s wide range of hydration packs. They are available in two models for each of the 1.5, 2.5, and 3.0-liter sizes. The Hydraulics model includes a back shield to keep the reservoir off your back with thinner, less structured packs. But the Hydraulics LT model is just the reservoir without any added structure for a lighter option.

Osprey Packs, a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs to comfortably and efficiently carry gear, announced today that they have partnered with Hydrapak – the creator of innovative hydration solutions for performance-driven people – to collaboratively design and manufacture Osprey Hydraulics reservoirs. These reservoirs will be used in Osprey’s full line of hydration packs and sold separately beginning with the Spring 2016 collection. The all-new Osprey Hydraulics by Hydrapak system includes two reservoir models – Hydraulics and Hydraulics LT. The new Osprey Hydraulics by Hydrapak is all backed by Osprey’s All Mighty Guarantee – a lifetime guarantee on all Osprey packs, reservoirs, and accessories…

Grams Thoughts
I have always liked the Hydrapak reservoir with their easy to use Slide-Seal Top system, which opens wide and seals tight, and utilizes a whitewater boating wet bag sort of design. The new Hydraulics and Hydraulics LT carry on the same designs and technologies of Hydrapaks existing reservoirs and then add traditions and tweaks from Osprey, including a functional carrying handle and a stiff backing plate. Some new features from the partnership are the Pour Shield, Carry Handle and QuickConnect that resides towards the top of the reservoir…

Snewsnet.com – Featuring Osprey Hydraulics – May 29,2014

May 29, 2014

Whether your retail customers are biking, hiking, running, paddleboarding, working out, practicing yoga or somehow doing all on the same outing, one thing they all share in common is the need to stay hydrated during their activity.

This has led to a steady stream of sales in the hydration category at specialty retail, encompassing everything from water bottles and bladder-hosting hydration packs to electrolyte mixes and other supplements all designed to keep water flowing in users’ systems as readily as adrenaline….

On the hands-free front, Kennedy said continuing refinements to products from brands such as CamelBak and Osprey are also leading to increased sales — especially their use-specific products for such activities as biking, hiking and trail running.

“Osprey, in particular, has done a great job with its designs as far as comfort and features,” he said. “Especially in the hiking category.”

SNEWSNet.com – Osprey Expands Hydraulics™ Series with Lighter, Streamlined Reservoir – July 17, 2013

July 17, 2013

Recognizing that less is often more, especially when on the move, Osprey Packs, Inc. is adding to its innovative Hydraulics series with the new Hydraulics LT Reservoir for Spring 2014.

The all-new reservoir features a lighter and simpler feature set compared to the current Hydraulics Reservoir, ideal for fast and light endeavors and pack styles with internal reservoir pockets. Building on the innovations of the Hydraulics Reservoir, the design of Hydraulics LT Reservoir combines excellent reservoir-to-pack integration, superior technical features and the best gender-specific pack-to-body fit and performance on the market.

“Carrying water should never compromise fit, comfort or stability in a pack,” said Gareth Martins, marketing director of Osprey.  ‘We set that standard with the original Hydraulics Reservoir and now, with the introduction of the new Hydraulics LT, our hands-free hydration program takes yet another giant leap.”

The new Hydraulics LT features a QuickConnect™ detachable hose that allows for easy disconnect of the hose for faster refilling. Additionally, the built-in baffles on the reservoir prevent sloshing while maintaining the reservoir’s shape.

In addition to these unique features, the new reservoir incorporates the innovation that Osprey Hydraulics Reservoir is known for including:
•    Flexible ¼” hose for faster water flow
•    ¾ turn cap for quick and secure open/close
•    Liter markings printed on reservoir body
•    Metallocene PE high strength and taste-free film (BPA & PVC-free); anti-microbial formula to prevent bacteria and mold
•    Low-profile shape keeps water weight steady and close to the body
•    Magnetic bite valve with included sternum strap magnet
•    Built-in 180-degree pivot on/off bite valve

Hydraulics LT Reservoir is available in:
•    1.5 Liter – $28
•    2.5 Liter- $30

The Hydraulics LT Reservoir will be sold separately and will also be sold as part of the new Rev Series which debuts Spring 2014. The Rev Series meets the highly technical needs of trail running and endurance racing while also serving as the perfect companion to anyone who appreciates smaller volume, streamlined hydration packs.

GunTradeWorld.com – Featuring Osprey Hydraulics – March 15, 2013

March 15, 2013

Convenience is another critical feature. “Anyone who has struggled trying to get a full bladder
back into a pack will recognize the differences in the way hydraulic reservoirs are designed,”
reports Erik Hamerschlag, product line manager at Osprey Packs Inc. “Consumers are looking for
a design that maintains the shape effectively and is easy to handle getting in and out of the
pack’s hydration sleeve.”

In the field, small details matter. Hydration hoses that dangle or flop around can be a real
nuisance to a hunter. Most new designs offer a way to store the hose and bite value out of the
way. Osprey, for example, uses magnets on the bite valve and pack harness to secure the
system effectively.

4AllOutdoors.org – Featuring Osprey Hydraulics Manta 30 pack – March 26, 2010

June 25, 2010

I’ve been using the Manta on day hikes and more recently while paddling my kayak.  I am so impressed with the fit and function of this pack.  I have been consciously trying to drink more water, and the Manta has been a great help while active.  The ease of use is the biggest factor.  I can easily fill it before heading out.   I have used it numerous times, and have not noticed any ‘plastic’ or off taste.  The reservoir is made by Nalgene, and is BPA and PVC free. The the AquaGuard anti-microbial formula is designed to prevent bacteria and mold from developing.  This appears to be working because the reservoir has not developed any mold, and the water still tastes fine.  Keeping the water clean and tasting good is the easiest way to keep me drinking it.
