Description

Throw the Osprey Escapist 32 on your back, hop on your bike, and get away from it all. Anchored by a BioStretch™ harness and hipbelt, this low-profile pack is designed to keep the load balanced when descending rough terrain. The Airscape™ mesh backpanel provides ventilation when you’re grinding up the pass.

Access to the main compartment comes via a convenient zippered front panel so you can see all your gear at a glance. A zippered divider at the base of the pack provides segregated storage for stuff you want to avoid commingling—post-ride clothing or perhaps a pair of sandals— with the rest of your gear.

Additional features include a myriad of external storage options starting with three handy stretch mesh pockets—one on each side and another in the front. The hipbelt has twin zippered pockets for snacks and there’s a phone-sized pocket on the shoulder strap. A zippered external front pocket keeps valuables secure and a non-scratch glasses pocket protects your shades. The external hydration sleeve makes for easy reservoir refills.

If you’re out after sunset, this pack features reflective accents and a blinker light attachment point for extra visibility. And if a sudden storm rolls in, there’s an integrated raincover always stowed in the bottom of the pack.

Comments about Osprey ESCAPIST 32:

For years I have been using an OGIO laptop backpack when I travel. I then use it for day hiking. This trip I left the laptop in storage so I purchased a true day pack.

Great idea. The Escapist 32 did a great job. It was used on five hikes varying from flat land to Tuckerman's Ravine in New Hampshire ranging from 4 to 8 miles long. For flat hikes in good weather most packs might suffice. For the Ravine I needed extra clothes, more water, and other items, as well as camera equipment. The Escapist worked fantastically. The pack weighed 20 to 30 pounds and caused no problems over the five hikes. It was very adjustable so I could change how the pack rode and felt.

Pros
- Comfortable and very adjustable.
- Two large compartments, OR, one large compartment.
- Front zipper compartment has a few pockets.
- Side pouches have good stretch to them as well as a securing system. Perfect for bear spray, water, etc.
- Front stretch pouch works well.
- Small zipper pocket for glasses on the shoulder strap which worked well for my clip on shades.
- Two pouches on the hip belt great for small flashlights, ipod, etc.
- Top zippered pocket which I used for glasses and travel papers.
- Dedicated place for your water reservoir. My CamelBak bladder worked fine but there are others available.
- Integrated rain cover (did not use but I did try it out).
- Fit well under airplane seats both horizontally and longitudinally.
- I was able to secure a pole and my camera tripod with camera attached to outside of pack.

Cons
- Only one: It needs more pockets! More in the front zipper area, several in the large compartment, 1 or 2 in the top zipper area. A tablet pouch would be nice. I solved the lack of pockets problem by buying a bunch cheap cosmetic bags at a dollar store and used them to separate items for easy finding.

Overall, I will never use the OGIO for hiking again. I will use it for my large laptop but always use the Osprey for hiking.

    Comments about Osprey ESCAPIST 32:

I bought this pack for a 2 week bikepacking trip on the Colorado Trail and it was perfect. I also own a Raptor for everyday mountain biking and once back from the trip never switched back to the smaller pack because this one was so comfortable I didn't notice the difference. I use this pack for everything now. Day hiking with the kids, my 10-mile bike commute to work with laptop and clothes, weekend getaway trips, carry-on for flights...everything. Great versatile pack and Osprey quality.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE This Bag!

      Comments about Osprey ESCAPIST 32:

Please see my prior notes on Talon and Sirrus! I finally landed on this bag and must have told my husband over 20 times on our trip "Have I told you how much I love this bag!?!?!?" I was looking for a lightweight, good-fitting bag with lots of storage options for carry on to planes, trains and ferries while traveling to Italy. I also wanted the bag to serve as a quality day pack for hiking and exploring. I didn't want a stuff sack but wanted to access the storage via zippers. What I love about this bag is the versatile storage options and massive amount of storage without the weight. If considering this bag, research all the pockets--one across the tip top for little things-keys, kleenex (things you aren't worried about getting stolen), a small cell phone pocket on the front of one of the straps (LOVED!!!!), a divider in the main pocket so you could keep wet or less important things on the bottom, a teeny slim pocket across the very bottom (generally holds the rain cover but I didn't take it) and several internal pockets. And all this with adjustable hip, shoulder and chest straps. I seriously cannot say enough things about this bag. My only two wishes...more color options and elongating the hip pockets that run across the sides so they are easier to access.

Bought to use for bike packing. Plenty of storage options to organize your gear. Second Osprey bicycling specific pack I've bought. Would not hesitate to purchase again. Very durable.
