Comments about Osprey WAYPOINT 80:

After my first trip to Japan for work, I determined I needed a travel pack. After researching what packs are available, the Waypoint 80 was the perfect fit for what I needed. I love all the room and the detachable daypack. It made sightseeing trips enjoyable. The zippered cover over the straps worked well to avoid snagging on things in the subways. With it heavily packed, the daypack needs removed to fit in the overhead compartments. You can overload it which makes it real heavy so be careful.

Great Pack for Traveling

Comments about Osprey WAYPOINT 80:

I'm using my second Waypoint 80. Under a heavy load, the bottom of the internal frame broke through the webbing. However, with Osprey's All Mighty Warranty, I got a replacement pack for free, and this problem seemed to have been fixed on the new pack.

Overall, the pack works well for adventure traveling (Machu Pichu, Petra, Sahara Desert, etc). If you are planning on carrying a heavy load, then consider the version with wheels. The pack is a bit heavier, but going through the airport would be much easier.

Fully loaded, with the day pack attached (to the back), the weight is pretty far away from your back, which means your balance is thrown off a little. The day pack works great as a carry on, so I usually have it detached, or connected to the front clips.

If you happen to pick up a lot of souvenirs on your trip, you can connect the day pack to the main pack, and check everything as "one" bag (just keep in mind weight limits).

Some cons:
- The zipper attaching the day pack to the main pack is pretty light duty. There's been many times I've been afraid of breaking that zipper.
- The day pack is okay, there are better ones out there. This one does not have side compression straps, or water bottle holder. The big pack does have water bottle holder, which I find I never use

Great bag but bad buckles

Comments about Osprey WAYPOINT 80:

I really like this bag, it is really easy to load and pack and has quite a few convenient aspects to it. I took this bag to India and London and it served well in both of those circumstances. I am planning a 6 month trip next and i think this bag will serve well-ish on that trip. I really liked the smaller backpack as well but i wish they added similar straps that they have on the larger pack for a sleeping pad to the bottom of the daypack so you could strap a jacket or sweatshirt etc to it. Also would have liked a mesh pocket for water bottles that wouldn't have added much to the overall bag.

What blows my mind is that for ~$300 the buckles on the compression straps are such poor quality that one already broke the second day of my trip. Granted my bag may have been overstuffed, but the idea behind the compression straps is that they are supposed to handle a lot of the force that comes with the way the strap is supposed to be used. Quite frankly now i think i have to rip apart the stitching on the strap in order to replace the buckle so i can continue using it again... Seems ridiculous to me that the top of the line bag comes with cheap plastic buckles, I would have paid even more if it meant that the buckles were stronger and I don't need be delicate with the bag as i travel.
