    Comments about Osprey PORTER 30:

I used the the Porter 30 to travel to Ukraine in May. The bag exceeded my expectations in terms of capacity and comfort and eliminating the need to check a bag. This bag survived 2 connecting flights, 2 overnight trains in Ukraine, and several mini-bus excursions in Ukraine.

    Comments about Osprey PORTER 30:

I bought both the 2017 & 2016 version. I'm reviewing now since the new bag hasn't changed much. The biggest issues I have with this bag are part of the design itself. I'm not a fan of the wings design, due to the foam inside they tend to get in the way when trying to pack the back or quickly access something. That being said I took advantage of the velcro in the lining and just recently pulled them out. Making the bag easier to access. Now that the laptop compartment is between the bag and the harness I feel the need for the foam wings isn't really necessary. I was disappointed to see that this year there still wasn't a water bottle pocket added. It's a travel backpack the assumption is you plan to walk around with it and so I'd like to have water accessible when my daypack is not on me. For now I'll just have to find a way to add it myself in an area that is foam free since it's hard to sew through thick foam. There are still no top loaders on the 30L bag. While I'm sure that is a decision of the weight not being large enough to need them as a petite woman the straps don't sit on my frame properly and top loaders would help adjust that. Another thing I'll probably need to add to the bag. The top pocket is not covered by the wings but if the bag is compressed it does make it awkward to open it would have been nice if the zipper was on the top of the bag instead of in the front. Also hip straps are a bit hard to put back in the pockets they come from sometimes the buckles will get stuck so it's not something you should wait to do right before boarding a flight or bus. The harness system didn't change but it does seem that this version the zipper closes smoother. Last years version I found the harness straps were too close to the zipper. I've used it twice on weeklong trips. It is a good bag overall everything stays in place because the wings have compression straps although it does make it hard to access any of the pockets when it's strapped up.

      Comments about Osprey PORTER 30:

This pack carries an incredible amount of gear for a 30 liter pack. The single deep main compartment maximizes the use of space. It makes it possible for me to pack more than I can in packs of similar and sometimes larger size that are divided into two or more large compartments. The compression straps work great for cinching the pack down. The are also some thin pockets and sections that are great for holding laptops, tablets, papers, pens, keys and other gear. I can easily stow this pack under the seat in front of me on any plane and even on some commuter planes such as the CRJ700. It fits in the overhead compartment of most any plane. I am a fairly light packer and have used the Porter 30 as my only bag on trips as long as 12 days. I am sure I could go longer. The waist belt and compression straps work well even with moderately heavy waits. I highly recommend this pack.

        Comments about Osprey PORTER 30:

I own 6 Osprey bags. The PORTER 30 is my "go to" bag for the 2 night business trip. It packs great with packing cubes, has plenty of room and the tech packing area is perfect. Once it is packed and cinched down, it becomes incredibly small. I can avoid the baggage claim area as this bag fits into the tightest overheads and always under the seat with no problem.
2 nights on the road? ANSWER: Osprey Porter 30. If I am going longer, it grab the PORTER 46.

This pack has a good amount of open space as well as organization pockets. I use this pack for range shooting as it can easily hold ammo, ear and eye protection, spotting scope, etc. all within easy access in the main compartment. Targets and other accessories for your optics/gadgets can be neatly organized in the front pockets. Straps stow easily when not in use.
