While Osprey’s entries into the bike market have all been very well built, it turns out that some riders aren’t looking for quite so much organization (or the weight and complexity that it can bring) in their packs.  For them, Osprey has released the pared-back Syncro 10, 15, and 20.

On the rough & tumble side of things, Osprey’s Zealot is a freeride-oriented pack that is a bit sturdier, is fairly thin (to be comfortable while riding the lifts), and has full clamshell-style access and a cool tool roll that deploys from the bottom of the bag.

With days getting longer, its officially big bag season! That’s right folks, time to pack a lunch, extra clothing, tools, and a handful of spares for some backcountry adventure. At a claimed 20L cargo capacity (M/L size), Osprey’s Manta 20 pack just meets my usual all-day ride carrying requirements. Given my experience with its cycling-specific nephew the Raptor 18, I knew to expect a well-built bag with an excellent reservoir.

I’ll be the first to admit having a bag problem. Over the course of a season of mountain biking, I’ll cycle through an embarrassing number of bags in search of the perfect combination of fit, capacity, and features. Though I do have a handful of standbys that I rely heavily on, when word of Osprey’s first mountain bike specific range of packs began popping up last fall, I had to have a look. The Raptor range (6, 10, 14 and 18) has a whole bunch of shared features that makes the bags stand out from the large number of ‘me too’ hydration packs on the market. Excited by the Raptors’ potential and positive early reviews, I managed to get my hands on a Raptor 18 for review.
