Mile by mile, minor issues with pack fit can grow into a bent back, sore shoulder and chafed hips — not to mention a general feeling of misery. The best pack is the one that you don’t notice you’re wearing, and Osprey’s Atmos AG fits the bill.

The AG’s main draw is its innovative suspension system. The Anti-Gravity suspension system is a mesh panel that goes from the hip to the top of the back panel, a design that we found creates the feeling of someone hugging you rather than leaning on you. The panel contours to the shape of the wearer and helps reduce the tiny shifts in pack weight that destroy backs on long hikes. The better fit also increases hikers’ mobility and reduces perspiration. When we tested it on a loop around Mitten Ridge in Sedona, we found that the AG 65’s suspension made a big difference in performance and comfort.
