Sun sets on Day 1 of Adventure Racing National Championships

It is now 7:15 pm here in Moab and the sun is down. Teams are heading out on the bike leg, lights blazing, with high hopes of a strong ride through the night and finishing by Noon tomorrow. Team Osprey and Team YogaSlackers continue at the front of the field.
Race directors Will and Jenny Newcomer patiently wait at Checkpoint #13 for all teams to complete mesa top trekking section and hope that they do not need to go searching for lost teams during the night. The red rock canyons and mesa tops that Will and Paul Angell (from Checkpoint Tracker) chose for the course this year are stunning and impressive but surely can lead to get turned around out there, especially once the sun is down. Many teams reviewed their race strategies and chose to bypass several mesa top checkpoints so as not to get caught out in the dark. Here’s wishing safe travels to all the teams still out there!!!! May the winds be at your backs and the moon light your way!
Off to Slickrock to track down the lead teams on the bike leg!
